Role Overview

We are working with a leading civil engineering contractor who is looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support their Southern Region. The role will initially be based on either a £12m highways scheme in Folkestone or a major infrastructure project at the Port of Dover, involving the construction of new entry and exit systems. As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take a leading role in the commercial management of projects, supporting delivery teams and mentoring junior staff.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting and developing junior members of the team.
  • Managing project profitability and commercial performance.
  • Monitoring costs against budgets and forecasts.
  • Identifying risks and implementing control measures.
  • Preparing estimates and cost plans.
  • Procuring subcontractors and preparing subcontract documentation.
  • Managing subcontractor payments including interim and final accounts.
  • Handling variations under the main contract.
  • Supporting the resolution of commercial disputes where required.
  • Ensuring compliance with contractual, quality and safety standards.

About You

To be considered, you should have a strong commercial background within civil engineering, ideally on highways schemes.

Requirements

  • Experience working as a Senior Quantity Surveyor on civil engineering projects.
  • Strong highways project experience with a main contractor.
  • Good understanding of NEC contracts.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and leading commercial processes.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Solid numeracy and IT capability.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regionally.
