Our client is a highly respected and long-established civil engineering and groundworks contractor with a proven track record of delivering section 278 / section 38 and residential development projects across East Anglia and the Southeast. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team based in Cottenham.

Role Overview

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established contractor and play a key role in the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of civil engineering and groundworks projects. Reporting into senior commercial leadership, you will be responsible for managing the commercial performance of projects from contract award through to final account. The successful candidate will help drive profitability, manage risk, and ensure robust commercial controls are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the commercial and contractual aspects of multiple civil engineering and groundworks projects.
  • Prepare and submit applications for payment, valuations, and final accounts.
  • Monitor project costs, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow.
  • Produce monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) and commercial reports.
  • Procure and manage subcontractor and supplier packages.
  • Assess, value, and negotiate variations, compensation events, and change orders.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.
  • Support tendering and pre-construction activities where required.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and operational teams.
  • Provide support and mentorship to junior members of the commercial team.

About You

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in a Quantity Surveying role within civil engineering, infrastructure, groundworks, or related sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and JCT forms of contract.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and financial management skills.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A proactive and professional approach to commercial management.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Membership of RICS or working towards chartered status.
  • Experience working on highways, drainage, utilities, infrastructure, or residential development schemes.
  • Previous experience mentoring or supporting junior surveyors.
