A leading UK construction and engineering specialist is appointing an Engineering Survey Lead to provide Group‑wide oversight of structural and geospatial surveying across a diverse portfolio of complex projects. This is a senior technical leadership role with genuine influence — setting standards, driving quality, supporting work‑winning and acting as the go‑to authority on complex surveying matters.
The Opportunity: While survey teams remain embedded within individual operating businesses, you will lead surveying capability at Group level. Working closely with senior leadership, including the CEO and Operating Company MDs, you’ll ensure surveying standards, governance and technical excellence underpin both project delivery and future growth. As the function matures, there is clear scope to build and scale a dedicated surveying team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Group‑wide leadership for structural and geospatial surveying
- Set, implement and uphold surveying standards, methodologies and reporting
- Act as technical authority on complex and high‑risk surveying challenges
- Support tenders, work‑winning and identification of follow‑on opportunities
- Monitor resourcing, utilisation and commercial performance of surveying activities
- Audit survey outputs to ensure quality, compliance and consistency
- Build strong relationships with senior operational and commercial stakeholders
- Challenge non‑compliant practices and drive continuous improvement
About You:
- Chartered with IStructE, CICES, RICS or equivalent
- Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme certified (or willing to complete on joining)
- 10+ years’ technical surveying experience
- 5+ years leading an established surveying function or team
- Strong knowledge of surveying regulations, RICS standards, CDM and HSE
- Proven ability to set standards, govern quality and influence best practice
- Commercially aware, with experience supporting tenders and client engagement
- Confident operating at senior level and challenging where required
