Job purpose: As Technical Coordinator you will be supporting the food technologists by assisting with the sourcing, evaluating and ensuring the food safety compliance of products supplied to customers. You will ensure that suppliers meet regulatory and customer specific requirements, by coordinating audits and keeping relevant supplier documentation up to date. You will also ensure that along with the relevant category or regional technologist, specifications are kept up to date and accurate, labels and artwork are technically compliant, NCR complaints are managed effectively and allocated to the relevant technologist, recorded, and responded to in a timely manner. You will ensure that internal departments are supported appropriately and coordinate operational compliance. You will ensure that the supplier and product databases are kept up to date and will be a key member of the project team, supporting with the required documentation and administration for each project. You will report into the Senior Food Technologist and be working closely with procurement, NPD and operations/sales co-ordinators across all global offices.

Key responsibilities:

  • Collaborate effectively with category and regional food technologists to support the sourcing of safe and high-quality food and beverage products.
  • Allocating workload to the relevant technologist to complete and recording all output in a clear way.
  • Ensuring that all Technical Specifications for all global regions (UK/EU/US/Asia Pacific) are kept up to date whilst considering each regional requirement specifically with regards to food safety, labelling, nutritional and food allergen legislation.
  • Ensuring that artwork labels, base cards and meal sleeves for new product launches are allocated and filed effectively.
  • Process NCR reports from customers, working with the relevant food technologist to investigate thoroughly and ensuring that corrective and preventative actions are recorded, filing them appropriately.
  • Collating information for desktop audits when onboarding new suppliers, alongside the category / regional technologists, globally.
  • Liaise with NPD on new product launches for all regions.
  • Work closely with internal departments (Supply Chain, Procurement and Design) to ensure project work is delivered within the timelines agreed at all stages of the product life cycle.
  • Organising samples for laboratory testing.
  • Concession and shelf-life request processing.
  • Working with the operational teams to ensure compliance of technical processes.
  • Provide technical assistance to suppliers and customers.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes and industry guidance to ensure the business remains compliant and competitive.
  • Coordinate and assist with food safety training programmes.
  • Monitoring the supplier risk assessment and approval programme, ensuring all audits and documentation & certification is filed accordingly and kept up to date.
  • To undertake any other duties, which may from time to time be assigned, this can include travelling to supplier sites as required.

Person Specification:

Qualifications and training: A degree in food science/technology or a related science.

Experience: Previous experience of working in the travel sector in a quality/technical role of a food manufacturer or flight caterer.

Knowledge and skills: Good understanding of GFSI standards, HACCP/TACCP/VACCP and labelling legislation. Basic knowledge of EU/UK food safety regulations. Understanding of FDA/USDA/FSANZ/global legislation welcomed. Proficient IT and report writing skills. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.

Personal Qualities: Self-starter with ability to use own initiative. The experience and maturity to work within a fast-paced team and ability to prioritise effectively.
