The Senior Clinical Research Nurse will play a key leadership role in the delivery of clinical trials across the EMS Healthcare study portfolio. Working under the direction of the Clinical Research & Delivery Manager, you will support the operational delivery of studies across mobile research units, community settings, and fixed clinical sites. This role combines advanced clinical practice with operational oversight and team leadership. You will support the safe, compliant, and high-quality delivery of multiple studies across therapeutic areas, ensuring adherence to ICH-GCP, study protocols, EMS SOPs, and regulatory standards.

The Senior Research Nurse will act as a senior clinical resource within the study team, providing mentorship and guidance to research nurses and site staff, while maintaining a strong focus on participant safety, experience, and data integrity. The successful candidate will be confident, adaptable, and experienced in research delivery, with the ability to lead teams across varied clinical environments.

Main Duties

  • Support the day-to-day operational delivery of clinical trials across the EMS Healthcare portfolio, ensuring studies are delivered to agreed timelines, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision to research nurses, clinical staff, and site coordinators, fostering a supportive and high-performing team culture.
  • Act as a senior clinical decision-maker, providing direct participant care where required.
  • Ensure all essential documents, study logs, and site files are maintained in line with ICH-GCP and EMS SOPs.
  • Act as a key operational liaison for assigned studies, escalating risks and issues appropriately to the Clinical Research & Delivery Manager.
  • Support workforce planning, staff allocation, and rota coordination across projects as required.
  • Deliver and/or facilitate study-specific training, protocol training, and clinical competency assessments.
  • Support recruitment and retention strategies to ensure enrolment targets are achieved across studies.
  • Maintain high standards of participant safety, infection prevention and control, consent processes, and data accuracy.
  • Participate in site initiation visits, monitoring visits, sponsor meetings, and audits/inspections.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and internal performance reporting.
  • Support the development of junior staff through mentorship and clinical supervision in line with EMS governance frameworks.

Experience - Essential

  • Registered Nurse with active NMC pin.
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in clinical research nursing.
  • Experience delivering clinical trials in commercial, NHS, or academic settings.
  • Strong working knowledge of ICH-GCP and UK clinical trial governance requirements.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or supporting junior staff.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Experience working across varied clinical environments (hospital, community, or mobile settings).

Experience - Preferable

  • Experience working across multiple therapeutic areas.
  • Experience supporting mobile or decentralised clinical trial delivery.
  • Experience contributing to workforce planning or rota coordination.
  • Familiarity with electronic data capture (EDC) systems and clinical trial management systems (CTMS).
  • Experience preparing for or participating in regulatory inspections or audits (e.g. MHRA).
