We’re proud to have achieved Great Place To Work status for three years running - and to be recognised among the UK's Best Workplaces in Manufacturing, Production & Transportation. But it’s about so much more than badges to us, it’s about being recognised by our people for the continuous work we do to do better for them.

About the Opportunity: We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join our central engineering team at a pivotal time for the business. In this senior role, you will take technical and delivery ownership of complex, high-value projects across the UK, providing leadership from concept through to commissioning and handover. You will lead the development of robust process plant solutions, oversee design, specification and procurement activities, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme and to agreed performance criteria. In addition, you will play a key role in shaping engineering standards, driving continuous improvement and mentoring junior engineers within the team.

What You’ll be doing:

  • Lead the development of process designs, user requirement specifications and detailed technical documentation
  • Oversee and review 2D/3D CAD layouts and equipment specifications, ensuring fitness for purpose and compliance with standards
  • Lead procurement strategies, including supplier selection, tender evaluation and contract management
  • Manage end-to-end project delivery, including installation, commissioning, performance testing and operational handover
  • Provide technical leadership, drive continuous improvement initiatives and support the development of engineering capability across the business

About You: Time-served engineer (or equivalent experience) with a strong background in process and/or plant engineering. Significant experience in materials handling and heavy industrial environments. Proficient in CAD and the application of structured risk and reliability tools such as FMEA. Proven track record of leading complex projects and managing suppliers and contractors. Commercially aware, solutions-focused and comfortable operating in a hands-on, fast-paced environment. Experience mentoring or guiding junior engineers is highly desirable.

Who we are: Our purpose is to create a future where the materials we use don’t need to be extracted from the planet. At EMR, we give new life to unwanted materials. Every year, we recycle 10 million tonnes of metals and plastics, saving 19 million tonnes of carbon from entering the Earth’s atmosphere, diverting waste from landfill and protecting resources and habitats. We couldn’t do any of this without our team members. In return for all they do, we do everything we can to create an environment of belonging, value, support and growth.

We’re proud to have achieved Great Place To Work status, but it’s about so much more than a badge. It’s about being recognised by our people for the continuous work we do to do better for them:

  • ‘The people who work here are from varied backgrounds and have a variety of beliefs, all of which are accepted and respected.’
  • ‘I’m encouraged to keep a healthy work-life balance so that I can be performing at my best.’
  • ‘I’ve been supported every step of the way in my career progression.’
  • ‘EMR offers a fantastic and inclusive environment; collaboration across the whole business, humility and hard work.’

We couldn’t do any of this without our team members. In return for all they do, we do everything we can to create an environment of belonging, value, support and growth, underpinned by our Company values of We Care and We Do.

We Care: Integrity – our people are Respectful and Honest. Trust – our people are Collaborative and Genuine.

We Do: Accountable – our people are Determined and Responsible. Innovative – our people have a Growth Mind-set and are Progressive.
