About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Senior Software Projects Manager to join our client. This role is ideal for a professional with strong project delivery, stakeholder management, and leadership experience, capable of overseeing complex software and technology projects within a structured and regulated environment.
You will take full ownership of end-to-end project delivery, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget, while maintaining high standards of quality and governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Delivery & Governance
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of software and technology projects
- Define scope, objectives, timelines, and deliverables with stakeholders
- Establish and maintain governance, including risk management and reporting
- Ensure adherence to methodologies such as Agile, PRINCE2, Waterfall, or hybrid approaches
- Manage budgets, resources, and dependencies
- Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, including clients and senior leadership
- Build and maintain strong working relationships
- Ensure clear communication across all levels
- Manage expectations throughout the project lifecycle
- Team Leadership & Coordination
- Coordinate cross-functional teams (Development, QA, DevOps, Product, and Support)
- Provide leadership and direction to project teams
- Remove blockers and enable efficient delivery
- Promote a collaborative and high-performing delivery culture
- Risk & Issue Management
- Identify, assess, and manage project risks and issues proactively
- Implement mitigation strategies to minimise impact
- Escalate risks and issues appropriately
- Reporting & Performance
- Provide regular and accurate project reporting, including status updates, risks, financials, and key milestones
- Track and analyse project performance against KPIs and SLAs
- Ensure transparency and accountability
- Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to the development and improvement of project delivery frameworks and standards
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and delivery outcomes
- Stay informed of industry best practices and emerging trends
Working Arrangements
- Hybrid working: Glasgow office, home-based, and occasional travel
- Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:30 (37.5 hours per week)
- Additional hours may be required depending on project demands (TOIL or overtime applies)
Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience managing complex software or IT projects end-to-end
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and cross-functional teams
- Strong understanding of project management principles, methodologies, and governance frameworks
- Experience working within Agile and/or PRINCE2 environments
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong leadership, organisational, and problem-solving abilities
Desirable
- Experience working in regulated environments (e.g. health, justice, or central government)
- Experience in a senior or programme management role
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or MS Project
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and DevOps or CI/CD practices
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field
- PRINCE2, Agile (Scrum), or equivalent certification
