The Director of Turnaround will lead the firm’s recovery and turnaround practice, helping distressed and underperforming businesses stabilise cash flow, protect value, and deliver sustainable performance improvement. The role combines hands-on client delivery, stakeholder management, and practice leadership across a network of regional offices. This is an exciting role, to support rapid growth at a national and very well established accountancy firm, renowned for an autonomy and freedom to operate - trusted to curate and build your own role.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead major turnaround and recovery engagements for SME and mid-market clients, from initial diagnostic through to delivery.
- Assess business viability, liquidity, and funding needs, providing clear options and actionable recommendations.
- Design and implement cash flow, cost-reduction, and working capital plans to stabilise distressed businesses.
- Negotiate with key creditors (including tax authorities) to achieve sustainable restructuring outcomes.
- Advise boards on the full range of recovery and restructuring options, collaborating with insolvency specialists where appropriate.
- Leverage your professional network to originate new opportunities and build enduring client and referrer relationships.
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams across corporate finance, tax, and advisory disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
- Oversee project delivery, financial performance, and reporting to ensure quality, profitability, and client satisfaction.
- Represent the firm at industry events, acting as a visible ambassador for the turnaround and restructuring practice.
People Leadership
- Provide clear direction and leadership to the turnaround team, setting objectives and performance standards.
- Coach and develop team members through on-the-job learning and structured professional development.
- Promote a collaborative yet performance-driven culture aligned with firm values and sound risk management.
Candidate Profile
- JIEB-qualified insolvency or turnaround professional (mandatory), with extensive post-qualification experience.
- Proven track record leading complex, high-value restructuring or turnaround cases (“big-ticket” engagements).
- Strong UK restructuring and insolvency knowledge, including director duties and creditor negotiation.
- Demonstrable personal business network and a portable “black book” of client, lender, and adviser relationships.
- ACA/ACCA (or equivalent) also desirable.
- Exceptional financial analysis, cash forecasting, and stakeholder communication skills.
- Entrepreneurial, commercially driven, and confident in business development.
Location and Travel
This role is fully remote with some travel to client site as required.
Salary is up to ÂŁ130,000 + Discretionary Bonus.
