About the Role

Empowering Learning are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant with experience supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a full-time role working closely with children who may display behaviours that challenge, supporting them to access learning and develop positive relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent, tailored support to children with SEMH needs
  • Use trauma-informed practices to promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Support learning both in and out of the classroom
  • Manage and respond calmly to behaviours that challenge
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with children, staff and parents/carers
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Support the child's social, emotional and academic development

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs
  • A strong understanding of trauma-informed approaches
  • High levels of resilience, patience and emotional intelligence
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Ability to work full time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm
  • An Enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to purchase one

Desirable

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Teaching Assistant, SEND, or childcare-related)
  • Experience working in a school or specialist setting
