Maternity cover - Teaching Assistant role, KS1 - January start. I am working with one of our partner schools based in Nottingham who are in need of a highly experienced KS1 Teaching Assistant to cover maternity leave. We are seeking enthusiastic, dedicated, and experienced Primary School Teaching Assistants to support a range of welcoming primary schools. If you are passionate about helping children learn, grow, and succeed, we would love to hear from you.

About the Role

As a Primary Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside class teachers to support pupils across Key Stage 1. Your role will involve helping to deliver engaging lessons, supporting individual and small-group learning, and contributing to a positive, inclusive learning environment. Ideally, you should be highly experienced with phonics.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to pupils 1:1, in small groups, or across the whole class
  • Assist with phonics, reading, writing, and numeracy activities
  • Help set up and organise classroom resources
  • Support pupils with SEND or additional needs
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help maintain classroom routines
  • Supervise pupils during transitions, break times, and activities
  • Promote independence, confidence, and engagement in learning
  • Work closely with teachers to support teaching and learning

Requirements

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (CACHE/NCFE or equivalent)
  • Recent UK school experience, ideally within a primary setting
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with phonics programmes such as Little Wandle
  • Knowledge of EYFS, KS1, or KS2 curriculum
  • Experience supporting SEND, EAL, or behavioural needs
  • Experience delivering small-group interventions
