A supportive and ambitious secondary school in Newport is seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of English to join their English department from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic educator who is committed to inspiring a love of literature, language, and communication across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. The ability to teach Key Stage 5 is desirable but not essential. ECTs/NQTs and experienced teachers are warmly encouraged to apply.
About the Role
You will deliver engaging and high-quality English lessons, helping pupils to develop strong skills in reading, writing, and spoken communication. You will inspire learners to engage with a wide range of texts and develop confidence in their analytical and creative writing abilities.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Ability to teach English across KS3 and KS4
- Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature
- Passion for literature, language, and literacy development
- Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
- Ability to inspire and motivate learners of all abilities
- Commitment to raising attainment and promoting a love of reading and writing
Desirable
- Experience teaching GCSE English Language and Literature
- Ability to teach KS5 English (not essential)
- ECT/NQT applications welcome
- Understanding of the Curriculum for Wales
Essential Safeguarding & Compliance
- Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
