We are currently recruiting experienced Level 2 Nursery Practitioners to work within nursery and early years settings across Derby. We have a variety of opportunities available, including full-time, part-time and flexible day-to-day roles, making this an excellent opportunity for childcare professionals looking for consistent hours, additional work or a more flexible working pattern.
As a Level 2 Nursery Practitioner, you will play an important role in providing high-quality care, learning and support to children within a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment. You will work closely with the nursery team and more experienced practitioners to support children's development, wellbeing and learning while helping to maintain high standards of care.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing high-quality care and support to children aged 0-5.
- Supporting children's learning and development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
- Supporting practitioners with engaging, age-appropriate activities.
- Following children's individual interests and encouraging learning through play.
- Supporting children's communication, language, physical, social and emotional development.
- Assisting with observations and records of children's development and progress.
- Supporting children's individual needs and helping to create an inclusive environment.
- Building positive and professional relationships with children, parents, carers and colleagues.
- Supporting daily routines including mealtimes, personal care, toileting and sleep routines where required.
- Maintaining a safe, clean and stimulating environment.
- Following safeguarding, health and safety and nursery policies at all times.
- Working effectively as part of a team and supporting colleagues.
- Encouraging children's independence, confidence and curiosity.
- Supporting children's wellbeing and helping them feel safe, valued and settled within the nursery.
To be considered for this role, you MUST:
- Hold a recognised Level 2 qualification in Early Years/Childcare or an equivalent qualification.
- Have previous experience working within an EYFS setting.
- Have a good understanding of the EYFS framework and child development.
- Have an understanding of safeguarding and the responsibilities involved in working with young children.
- Be passionate about providing high-quality childcare.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be reliable, punctual and professional.
- Be confident working as part of a nursery team.
- Have a patient, caring and enthusiastic approach.
- Hold a DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to pay for and complete a new DBS check.
Due to the nature of working with children, appropriate safeguarding and background checks are required. Candidates must either:
- Have a valid DBS registered on the Update Service, or
- Be willing to pay for a new DBS check as part of the recruitment process.

- Part-Time: For practitioners looking for reduced hours, specific days or a flexible working arrangement each week.
- Day-to-Day: For experienced Level 2 practitioners who want greater flexibility and are available for short-term, temporary or day-to-day assignments within nursery settings.
The current shift patterns include:
- 8:00am - 1:00pm Morning shift.
- 12:00pm - 6:00pm Afternoon shift.
- 8:00am - 6:00pm Full-day shift.
There may be opportunities to work different shift patterns depending on nursery requirements and your availability.
