An excellent secondary school in Islington is seeking an experienced and organised Lead Exam Invigilator to oversee the smooth and secure running of examinations throughout the academic year. This seasonal role is ideal for someone with previous exam invigilation experience who is confident leading a team and ensuring all examinations are conducted in accordance with JCQ regulations.

Working closely with the Exams Officer and senior leadership team, you will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of the examination process while creating a calm and supportive environment for students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise a team of exam invigilators before, during, and after examinations.
  • Ensure all examinations are conducted in accordance with JCQ and awarding body regulations.
  • Prepare examination venues, including seating plans, exam materials, clocks, notices, and equipment.
  • Brief invigilators on procedures, candidate requirements, and examination regulations.
  • Distribute and securely collect examination papers and completed scripts.
  • Monitor examination rooms, ensuring a calm, silent, and secure environment at all times.
  • Verify candidate identities and ensure examination rules are followed.
  • Support candidates with approved access arrangements, including extra time, readers, scribes, and rest breaks.
  • Deal professionally with any incidents, disruptions, emergencies, or suspected malpractice, escalating concerns to the Exams Officer where appropriate.
  • Complete attendance registers, seating plans, incident reports, and all required examination documentation accurately.
  • Ensure examination materials are securely stored and returned following each session.
  • Provide guidance and support to new invigilators and promote best practice across the team.
  • Work collaboratively with the Exams Officer, SEND department, teaching staff, and senior leaders to ensure examinations run efficiently.
The Successful Candidate Will Have
  • Previous experience as an Exam Invigilator, with experience leading a team highly desirable.
  • A good understanding of JCQ examination regulations.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • A flexible and reliable approach during busy examination periods.
  • A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and examination integrity.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
