Are you a graduate looking to gain classroom experience? Are you looking to pursue a teaching career and wanting to gain experience and knowledge? Do you have experience assisting a teacher, and feel like you have the knowledge, professionalism and personality to work as a cover supervisor?
What is a Cover Supervisor? A cover supervisor supervises a class when a regular teacher is absent, ensuring students complete pre-prepared work and maintaining classroom order. The role is not to teach, but to manage student behaviour and help them stay on task with the work provided by the teacher.
This is a fantastic opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, or individuals with experience working with young people to gain hands-on experience in the classroom.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will:
- Deliver pre-set lessons and supervise classes in the absence of the regular teacher
- Manage classroom behaviour and ensure pupils remain engaged with the work provided
- Provide support to students as needed and liaise with teaching staff
- Report back to staff on behaviour and progress
Ideal skills and attributes:
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills
- Confidence working with secondary-aged students (11-16)
- Flexibility, reliability, and a positive attitude
- Experience working in schools or with young people is desirable but not essential
- A degree or transferable qualification is advantageous, but not required
If you are interested and think you are suitable for the above role, you can apply via the advert, or alternatively, you can call the Sheffield office of Empowering Learning.
Referral scheme – Empowering Learning offers a 150 payout to anyone we place through your kind suggestion, once the successful candidate has completed 30 working days at the school.
