The Role

We are working on behalf of a welcoming and ambitious secondary school in Derby and the surrounding areas to find a dedicated, enthusiastic Secondary School Teacher. Key Responsibilities

• Teaching & Learning
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver well-structured, engaging lessons in line with the National Curriculum and exam board specifications
  • Differentiating teaching to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND, EAL, or additional needs
  • Setting high expectations for pupil achievement, behaviour, and attitudes to learning
  • Using a variety of teaching strategies and resources to maintain pupil engagement and motivation
• Assessment & Progress
  • Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress accurately and regularly, including exam and coursework preparation
  • Using assessment data to inform planning and identify pupils requiring additional support or challenge
  • Providing constructive, timely feedback to pupils to support their development
  • Contributing to pupil progress meetings, parents' evenings, and reporting cycles
• Classroom & Behaviour Management
  • Creating a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment
  • Managing classroom behaviour effectively and consistently, in line with the school's behaviour policy
  • Promoting a calm, safe, and respectful atmosphere conducive to learning
• Collaboration & Communication
  • Working collaboratively with fellow teachers, department colleagues, and senior leadership
  • Communicating regularly and professionally with parents/carers regarding pupil progress and wellbeing
  • Contributing to whole-school initiatives, events, and extra-curricular activities where appropriate
  • Attending and actively participating in staff meetings, INSET days, and CPD sessions
• Safeguarding
  • Upholding the school's safeguarding policies at all times, promoting the welfare and wellbeing of every pupil
  • Reporting any safeguarding concerns promptly through the correct channels

Requirements

Essential

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification
• Experience teaching at secondary level, with strong subject knowledge in your specialist area
• Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
• Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding procedures and the National Curriculum
• A genuine passion for teaching and improving outcomes for pupils
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one
• Eligibility to work in the UK

Desirable

• Experience with SEN/SEND provision or working with pupils with additional needs
• Experience teaching GCSE and/or A Level specifications
• Experience with pastoral responsibilities (e.g., form tutor, head of year)
• Recent, relevant CPD or training
