We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including children and young people who may have experienced trauma and adversity. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping pupils thrive both academically and personally within a nurturing and supportive environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with the SENCo, Senior Leadership Team and teaching staff to deliver tailored educational and emotional support through both one-to-one and group provision.
Key Responsibilities- Support the holistic development of pupils with SEND and additional needs.
- Build safe, positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Support the delivery of learning activities and interventions.
- Assist with planning, preparation and assessment alongside teaching staff.
- Promote positive behaviour in line with school policies and restorative approaches.
- Help pupils develop social, emotional and life skills to support future independence and transitions.
- Work collaboratively with parents/carers and external professionals where required.
- Support safeguarding procedures and maintain a vigilant approach to pupil welfare.
- Attend staff meetings, training and professional development opportunities.
- Provide flexible support across the school as required, including covering for absent colleagues.
- Support off-site educational visits and activities.
- A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs.
- Understanding of the impact of trauma and adversity on child development.
- Ability to remain calm and resilient in a fast-paced and sometimes challenging environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Good literacy, numeracy and organisational skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.
- Ability to effectively manage personal wellbeing in emotionally demanding situations.
- Confidence using ICT to support learning and communication.
- Willingness to participate in training and continued professional development.
- Ability and willingness to use physical intervention, where required, in line with policy and training.
- Experience working within a school or SEND environment.
- First Aid qualification.
- Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and reflective practice.
- Understanding of child development and learning processes.
