We are currently recruiting for a reliable and organised Design & Technology Technician to join a welcoming secondary school in Birmingham from September 2026. This is a full-time, long-term role supporting the Design & Technology department across a range of specialist subject areas.
The successful applicant will play a key role in ensuring practical lessons run smoothly by preparing materials and equipment, maintaining stock, supporting teachers during practical activities, and ensuring workshops and classrooms remain safe, organised and fully resourced. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a practical mindset who enjoys working as part of a busy school environment.
Essential Requirements:- Previous experience working in a practical, workshop, technical or school environment is desirable
- Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
- Strong literacy, numeracy and IT skills
- Friendly, approachable and able to build positive relationships with students and staff
- Knowledge of workshop tools, machinery or specialist equipment is desirable
- Willingness to learn new skills and undertake relevant training
- Safeguarding Level 1 trained (support available if required)
- Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Prepare materials, tools, equipment and resources for practical lessons across the Design & Technology department
- Support subject areas including Product Design, Resistant Materials, Graphics, Engineering, Food Technology and Textiles where required
- Order, monitor and maintain stock levels using online ordering systems
- Clean, maintain and safely store tools, machinery, equipment and specialist resources
- Ensure workshops, preparation areas and classrooms remain clean, organised and compliant with health and safety regulations
- Support teachers during practical lessons and assist individual students or small groups where appropriate
- Carry out routine equipment checks and report maintenance or repair requirements
- Follow all health and safety, COSHH and departmental procedures to ensure a safe learning environment
- Assist with the smooth day-to-day running of the Design & Technology department
