Empowering Learning are working with a welcoming and supportive Primary School in Stockton looking for a dedicated Autism Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is a highly rewarding role where you’ll provide tailored support to pupils with Autism, helping them feel safe, understood, and confident in the classroom.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Providing engaging 1:1 and small group support
- Helping pupils manage emotions, behaviour, and daily transitions
- Supporting access to learning through adapted activities and visual aids
- Creating a calm, structured, and nurturing environment
- Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
- Monitoring progress and celebrating every achievement – big or small!
Requirements:
- Experience supporting children with Autism or SEND
- Brings a calm, positive, and proactive attitude
- Understands behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
- Holds a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential)
- Has Team Teach or positive handling training (a bonus, not a must!)
- Can provide references covering the last 2 years
- Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to purchase one
