Our client is expanding their commercial team out of their Watford office. They are looking for an enthusiastic, people-focused and entrepreneurial Quantity Surveyor to join their dedicated commercial and operational team, who specialise in Painting and Decorating and associated planned refurbishment works to the public, private, residential and educational sector.

Ideally, they are looking for a Quantity Surveyor with experience dealing and working with direct labour teams, time sheets, etc. Any background in painting, brickwork, plastering, roofing, or new builds in terms of QS could work for this role along with tendering, estimating and refurbishments, but dealing and working with direct teams is a big tick. However, if you have any exposure in regards to QS in painting work, worth mentioning that in your CV.

They are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to work as part of their fantastic Painting team. The main customer base will be Social Housing and Council/Local authority, Housing Associations, so you really need to highlight any experience in these sectors or projects you've worked on as this would be beneficial.

The Quantity Surveyor role involves actively tendering, estimating and measuring onsite, as well as liaising with direct labour at the client. They can offer a variety of works including established frameworks and core contracts with prestigious clients within the public and residential sector, as well as services covering retirement living, commercial and education sectors.

Specifically, you will:

  • Measure and prepare cost estimates for contracts and tenders, highlighting any commercial risks.
  • Prepare cost value reconciliations for contracts, identifying commercial risks and opportunities to ensure correct contract planning from the outset.
  • Work closely with the Contracts Manager to ensure productivity labour targets are agreed and issued before contract start, including direct labour incentives where possible.
  • Build strong client and supplier relations, ensuring any variations and progress of contracts are discussed and mutual solutions are sought.
  • Complete and analyse weekly reporting from site, ensuring it has adequate cost information (including labour rates and performance expectations, budgets, value, progress, quality, and safety).
