Overview: Quantity Surveyor – Tonbridge, Kent. Salary £66,538 per annum including car allowance (£6,700) plus pension, healthcare, life, etc. Our client is expanding their commercial team out of their Maidstone, Kent office (located between Maidstone and Tonbridge). They are looking for a Quantity Surveyor who can share in this growth ethos. Honesty, integrity and teamwork will be at the heart of what they do.

Responsibilities: The Quantity Surveyor role involves actively tendering, estimating and measuring onsite, as well as liaising with direct labour at the client. The company offers a variety of works including established frameworks and core contracts with prestigious clients within the public and residential sectors, as well as services covering retirement living, commercial and education sectors. Specifically, you will:

  • Measure and prepare cost estimates for contracts and tenders, highlighting any commercial risks.
  • Prepare cost value reconciliations for contracts, identifying commercial risks and opportunities to ensure correct contract planning from the outset.
  • Work closely with the Contracts Manager to ensure productivity labour targets are agreed and issued before contract start, including direct labour incentives where possible.
  • Build strong client and supplier relations, ensuring any variations and progress of contracts are discussed and mutual solutions are sought.
  • Complete and analyse weekly reporting from site, ensuring it has adequate cost information (including labour rates and performance expectations, budgets, value, progress, quality, and safety).

What will you bring as Quantity Surveyor? You will be inquisitive, organised, and honest, as well as being a genuine 'people person' who thrives when collaborating with clients, trade teams and immediate colleagues. Fostering a real 'working together' environment while building valued long-term relationships. You should have:

  • Proven experience in a similar estimating and surveying role.
  • Experience of the commercial management of projects from tender and estimation stages through to final account.
  • Experience of successfully managing a value of works up to £3 million annually.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, with a key eye for identifying business opportunities, and areas for negotiation and better gains.
  • A commercial, analytical, and accurate approach.
