Flood Risk and Hydraulic Modelling — Senior Consultant
Location: Leeds or London. The role is based at either the Leeds or London office, with a balance of in-office and work-from-home arrangements. Full or part-time hours will be considered.
Overview
Our client is a leading independent environmental consultancy with offices in London, Bristol, Warrington, Leeds, Brighton and Belgium. They provide high-quality services across environmental policy, strategy, design and assessment, and have a track record of sustained growth and repeat business.
Responsibilities
- Join the team as a Senior Consultant with at least 4+ years of experience undertaking hydraulic modelling and preparing Flood Risk Assessments (FRA).
- Assist in preparing hydraulic models (both fluvial and pluvial) to support FRAs for developments within sectors such as property, renewable energy, and aviation.
- Contribute to projects from early strategy development through feasibility, outline design, planning submission, and discharge of conditions.
- Work within various consenting regimes, including Development Consent Orders and Town and Country Planning.
- Liaise with the Water Team (and external stakeholders) to communicate opportunities and constraints, evaluate flood mitigation options within masterplans, and prepare reports. Support and assistance will be provided by the wider Water Team.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Good knowledge of the planning system, particularly flood-related policy and guidance such as the NPPF.
- Experience using Flood Modeller Pro and TUFLOW software packages.
- Knowledge of hydrology and ability to undertake hydrological assessments for both fluvial and direct rainfall models.
- Ability to recognise and communicate flood risk-related constraints and opportunities at development sites.
- Ability to develop and troubleshoot hydraulic models, interpret modelling results, and disseminate findings to clients.
- Experience with GIS and AutoCAD.
- Experience liaising with the Environment Agency (EA), understanding their model review process and modelling requirements.
- Awareness of project management and good communication skills (internally and externally).
- Ability to write clear and concise reports. Some experience producing FRAs is desirable; knowledge of preparing FRAs would be beneficial and training/support would be provided (e.g., drainage and SuDS).
