We are looking for a Fuel Team Leader who can lead the fuel team in undertaking the overall fuel handling duties from fuel reception to by-product removal in a safe and efficient manner.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, responsible for ensuring the overall fuel handling duties from fuel reception to by-product removal is maintained, optimised and improved to provide safe generation and reliable performance of the plant at all times. Furthermore, your tasks will be to:

  • Ensure the fuel handling and by-product plants are operated with respect to safety, environmental and operational limits at all times, whilst maximising availability, reliability and efficiency.
  • Ensure the day-to-day compliance with all aspects of the fuel handling systems including, daily routine LOLER and vehicle pre-use checks, fuel handling routines, plant inspections and all on-site traffic management and weighbridge systems are operational and effective.
  • Ensure all loading and unloading of general site deliveries, including fuel, by-products and all general plant and office deliveries are undertaken.
  • Responsible as the site point of contact for the MSA contract for the reception and collection of all fuel handling products, liaising with the duty shift team leader and security to coordinate all transport movements accordingly, based upon the annual/monthly and weekly forward plan.
  • Responsible for the periodic checking of the fuel quality delivered, to ensure it remains within specification and also for the monthly audit/stock take of the fuel held on site.
  • Ensure the fuel handling team provides operational support for the operations and maintenance teams to maximise plant performance and safety, particularly with regards general defect rectification, planned and first line reactive maintenance and fault finding.
  • Ensure all fuel handling defects/works/routines are recorded within the sites CMMS.
  • Provide support for all planned outages as required.
  • Provide management and supervisory support to technicians within the fuel handling team.
  • Engaging and developing all employees to maximise their potential to themselves and the business, delivering as a minimum annual and mid-term Performance Reviews for all direct reports.
  • Adhere to all Company Policies & Procedures (including but not limited to) those specified in the Employment Handbook, H&S Policy, IMS System and any financial/accounting systems.

The ideal candidate will ideally have an ONC/C&G/NVQ Level 3 qualification in a craft skill with a good level of practical Operational/Maintenance experience being preferable but not essential (Qualifications below this may be acceptable if accompanied by suitable experience). Further a good understanding of all HSE aspects is a fundamental requirement, with IOSH working Safely a preferred requirement. Our ideal candidate would have:

  • Knowledge and experience of biomass or thermal power plant process and exposure to a heavy process plant maintenance activity is preferred.
  • Previous experience and qualifications in the use of Counterbalance FLT/MEWP’s/Telehandler and Overhead Crane is preferable, although training, as required, will be provided.
  • Experience in the use of traffic management and weighbridge facilities would be desirable.
  • Previous experience within a supervisory role.
  • Good verbal/written communication skills in English.
  • Good interpersonal skills, self-motivated, flexible and committed attitude.
  • Full UK Driving License.

Whilst working as a Fuel Team Leader at BWSC we offer a starting salary of £37,000 with the opportunity for overtime, and a great total reward package including:

This role is a full-time role contracted for 40 hours per week, with some requirement for Saturday support. Some occasional and ad-hoc national travel may be required.
