The Assistant Accountant is responsible for day-to-day finance duties while also supporting the Senior Accountant with monthly management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and year-end activities. Working closely with colleagues across the sales, purchasing and warehouse teams in a busy distribution environment this role offers flexibility of either 32 hours (4-day week) or 38 hours (5-day week). Fridays are mandatory for operational cover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily sales invoicing
  • Credit application administration
  • Purchase invoice processing
  • Supplier reconciliations
  • Resolving invoice and purchase order discrepancies
  • Credit card reconciliations
  • Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts, including posting journals, maintaining fixed asset registers, and reconciling balance sheet accounts
  • Assisting with the preparation of annual budgets
  • Assisting with variance analysis against budgets and forecasts

Person Specification

  • 3-5 years experience in a finance office
  • Strong purchase and sales ledger knowledge
  • Experience assisting with month-end reporting
  • Good working knowledge of Excel and accounting software
  • AAT qualification with at least 3 years post qualified experience (desirable)
