We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established engineering business specialising in the design and manufacture of bespoke special purpose machinery. With over 80 years of engineering heritage, the company delivers innovative machinery and tailored engineering solutions across the food, industrial, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors, offering the opportunity to take genuine technical ownership of complex design projects.

This position would suit a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in bespoke machinery design and developing engineering solutions from initial concept. It will appeal to someone who enjoys solving complex mechanical challenges, working from a blank sheet rather than simply adapting existing designs from a PDM library, and taking responsibility for delivering innovative, practical solutions to individual customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design and development of bespoke special purpose machinery, taking projects from initial concept through to manufacture and commissioning.
  • Develop innovative mechanical engineering solutions to meet specific customer requirements, applying sound engineering principles and practical design-for-manufacture knowledge.
  • Produce detailed 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, assemblies, bills of materials and supporting technical documentation.
  • Take technical ownership of design projects, working directly with customers to establish requirements, resolve engineering challenges and manage design activities through to completion.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, assembly and production teams to ensure designs are practical, reliable, cost-effective and compliant with relevant engineering and safety standards.

In return you will receive a salary of up to £50k, 24 days holiday plus bank holidays, matched pension contributions up to 6.5% and a discretionary annual bonus, alongside the opportunity to work on genuinely bespoke engineering projects within a business with over 80 years of industry experience.

So if you are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineering role where you can use your creativity and technical expertise to develop machinery from the ground up rather than simply modifying existing designs, get in touch today.
