Employment Solutions is recruiting a Temporary Works Design Engineer for a growing UK structural engineering business based in Manchester. This is a brand-new role within the Design/Engineering team, offering the opportunity to work on technically challenging bridge and structural steel projects. The position is site-based in Manchester, so applicants must be able to commute to the facility daily.

The Role

  • Develop safe and practical temporary works designs for bridge and structural engineering projects
  • Undertake structural analysis, engineering calculations and technical design
  • Prepare and review drawings, calculations, specifications and technical documentation
  • Identify design risks and develop appropriate engineering solutions
  • Support design reviews, technical meetings and project teams
  • Work closely with Project Managers, CAD Technicians and Engineering
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, client requirements and engineering procedures
  • Support value engineering and continuous improvement

The approved role profile places particular emphasis on structural analysis, calculations and delivering temporary works solutions that are suitable for construction and installation.

About You

  • Degree, HNC or HND in Civil, Structural, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience in structural analysis, engineering calculations and temporary works design
  • Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and design standards
  • Experience preparing engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Competent with relevant structural analysis/design software
  • Strong problem-solving and engineering judgement
  • Full UK Driving Licence and flexibility to visit project sites when required

Desirable: Experience specifically within bridge, structural steel, civil engineering or construction, together with knowledge of temporary works procedures and design risk management. ICE, IStructE or equivalent professional membership/working towards membership is also desirable.
