Private Client Lawyer Required - Sunderland Office
We would consider partial home working. We can offer flexible start times if you need to work around school drop offs.
We are looking for a fee earner who is keen to enhance their career. For the right person partnership or directorship is available. In any event you will have flexibility to build up your caseload in a direction that interests you. You will need at least one year of private client law experience working on your own files. However, we are keen to speak to everyone from one year of experience up to partnership level.
This is a strong team headed by Jacqueline Emmerson who has circa thirty years of experience as a private client lawyer. She has successfully raised the profile of the team by winning Private Client Team of the year and Probate Provider team of the year (North and Midlands) at the British Wills and Probate Awards. Jacqueline is also a judge at these awards and for the Northern law Awards.
Why work for our Private Client Law Team?
Our fee earners know their worth, they are well trained and as such are ale to command higher fees, meaning that they are paid at better rates and carry less cases.
We obtain good quality work as we concentrate on service not price.
You do not have to fill in six minute time sheets. As a veteran of a large city firm Jacqueline Emmerson felt that time sheets were far too stressful. Instead you will be given a realistic billing target and will be monitored against financial KPIs.
We do not have the hierarchy of larger firms. You do not have to compete with partners for good quality work. You will be able to deal with wills, probate, court of protection, lasting powers of attorney, contested estates, and the management of the affairs of our elderly clients. We do have support staff available to process easier cases on your behalf.
Many of our clients are business owners and property investors. We are regularly instructed by professionals including university staff, doctors, dentists and teachers.
We are able to offer you work in other fields if you do not wish to lose your skill set in other areas of law. This may be family work, conveyancing, employment law etc.We are Lexcel accredited and take this very seriously. We are considered by Lexcel to be a well managed firm. We are also winners of the Law Society Excellence Awards.

Join our amazing team, here is what they have to say...
Although I am relatively new to the firm, I have been welcomed with open arms in such a friendly environment. It has been a case of hitting the ground running in such a busy department, but as a team it is apparent everybody thrives on that and I feel entirely supported. There truly is a no blame culture here, mistakes happen and it has been made clear to me from management since joining to always be open and honest. I know help is always available and I feel especially supported by my team leader. The team are full of knowledge and always willing to help each other out in times of need, especially across departments which often interlink.
I feel privileged to work for a firm to which the directors are always pushing for a work/life balance. Since day one, it has been made clear that working all hours we are given is not a healthy balance. It's important for me to have this balance and I'm lucky to work for a firm that shares this view. I have undergone CQS training which the firm have put me through despite being so new, and am in regular discussions about how to progress and build up my workload. Working for Emmersons is a pleasure and I look forward to my future here!
The firm/team has a great vibe. Everyone gets on with everyone. Great team culture. Everyone is approachable all the way to the top. Feel like I've been here ages!
The conveyancing team and the wider community of Emmersons Solicitors provide a warm and supportive environment for professional growth. The strong work ethic demonstrated by all members of the team is a great source of motivation. My time at Emmersons has already provided me with a vast array of knowledge learned though one to one mentoring and practical experience. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for the team.
