We are looking for an experienced Payroll Administrator / Bookkeeper to join our client's team.
This is a varied role, with approximately 50% of your time dedicated to payroll and 50% to bookkeeping and VAT preparation.
You will work with a wide range of clients and be responsible for managing a busy payroll workload while also supporting clients with their bookkeeping and VAT requirements.
We are also open to a part-time payroll specialist
If you are looking for a 3-day-per-week role, our client would also consider a candidate who wants to focus solely on payroll administration.
This position would not include the bookkeeping and VAT responsibilities.
- What you'll be doing
- Payroll
- Processing and filing payroll for approximately 100 clients.
- Managing weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthly payrolls.
- Dealing with all aspects of payroll.
- Handling client queries and liaising with HMRC where necessary.
- Ensuring payroll is processed accurately and within strict deadlines.
- Working with PAYE, SSP, SMP, National Insurance and pensions.
- Bookkeeping & VAT
- Assisting with bookkeeping for a wide range of clients.
- Preparing VAT returns.
- Working with Sage 50, Quick Books, Xero and Microsoft Excel.
- Client & Office Support
- Communicating with clients, colleagues and HMRC.
- Dealing with clients who visit the office.
- Helping with general administrative duties as required.
What we're looking for
- At least 2 years' recent experience processing a high volume of payroll transactions.
- A sound understanding of current payroll legislation, including PAYE, SSP, SMP, National Insurance and pensions.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to deal with clients and HMRC.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate data-entry skills.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- The ability to work accurately under pressure.
