Emmaus Hastings & Rother is recruiting a Learning and Development Manager to increase the support offered to companions in progressing towards independent employment and living by expanding access to training, education and volunteering opportunities. The role will champion and lead this work, taking responsibility for the implementation, review and continuous improvement of a formal Learning and Development programme for companions.
The staff and trustees of Emmaus Hastings & Rother want to increase the help we offer companions to move to independent employment and living by providing greater access to training, education and volunteering opportunities. This will be funded by both our successful commercial activities and fundraising. We will also provide transitional support in the initial adjustment from the Emmaus community to independent living and work to improve long-term success rates.
The key purpose of this role is to champion and lead this process, taking responsibility for implementing, reviewing and improving a formal Learning & Development programme for our companions. The ideal candidate will ensure that companions take part in training and work with individual companions to help them set and accomplish goals which increase their skills, employability and confidence.
We are looking for someone positive and energetic about helping people to change their lives, whilst understanding that many of our companions have complex problems and setbacks are likely. We need a resilient person who can motivate and encourage companions when their own intrinsic motivation is low or fluctuating. Our ideal candidate will be able to communicate with people who have been homeless and marginalised, and they will also need to be able to work effectively with training and adult education providers, local authorities, prospective employers, and private landlords.
Emmaus Hastings & Rother, which is one of over 30 Emmaus communities throughout the UK, has been supporting people out of homelessness for almost twenty years. We offer people who have experience homelessness on-site accommodation, food, support and meaningful work in our social enterprise to help them to rebuild their lives.
Emmaus is a unique, secular organisation supporting people affected by homelessness and social exclusion. There are currently Emmaus communities across the UK, stretching from Glasgow to Dover and Norfolk to South Wales. Collectively, the Emmaus Federation supports more than 1,000 people with experience of homelessness.
