Join our team and take the lead at our beautiful charity shop in Ditchingham! Our social enterprise activities are the beating heart of life at Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney, it’s the area where the whole community, companions, staff and volunteers come together to help generate the vital income needed to run our amazing site. From our superb café where we produce all of our food in-house, to what is arguably Britain’s most beautiful charity shop, and soon to include a bespoke B&B experience, you will be joining one of the UK’s most interesting charity destinations.
This role offers a unique opportunity to bring your creative, organisational and entrepreneurial skills to a charity that is ready to help you build your career in charity retail and social enterprise development. Plus, your oversight of recruitment, training and development of volunteers will allow you to build a strong team around you to help achieve your own vision for the look and feel of our retail proposition.
Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney is a really great place to work; we have our challenges, but we face them together, staff, volunteers and companions working to support each other. Nothing here could happen without our wonderful companions who have all experienced issues around homelessness and social exclusion. They live on site, work in the social enterprises and receive training and support as part of their overall wellbeing package.
Often charity retailers work in isolation from the main charity; however, here you will be in the heart of the charity and have onsite support from the entire staff team. This means you will always be able to reach out for support as well as being able to influence other areas of the charity's work with your unique perspective and experiences.
Emmaus is a truly unique charity with a support offer unlike anything else in the sector; it is therefore highly recommended that you visit the site and speak to the team prior to applying for the role. Having a strong charity retail background and particularly having experience of working with volunteers would be an advantage. However, our staff team thrive not just on the skills they possess but on their ability to empathise, encourage and support each other and our companions. Overall purpose of the job: To lead on all customer facing social enterprise activities (excluding catering) for Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney. This includes Charity Retail, Online Sale and any organised on-site events that involve sales to the public, such as farmers markets and craft stalls.
The post holder will provide direct supervision to all staff, companions and volunteers involved in any social enterprise activity. This includes the behind the scenes work involved in running a successful retail operation such as sorting, grading, pricing and display of donated goods to the public. You will coordinate this activity with the logistics manager who currently oversees the donation process and storage of donated items. The post holder will also oversee the recruitment, training and scheduled supervision of all Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney’s volunteers.
