The King’s Academy Catering team provides meals and hospitality for students and staff across two kitchens and two restaurants, serving daily lunchtimes, a breakfast club, breaktime service and various special events. The catering operation supports a large student population, with many students relying on school meals. The role involves using professional chef skills to prepare healthy, nutritious, and popular meals for every school day within a supportive team environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook main meals and assist the Catering Manager in organizing the work of the catering team.
- Deliver high-quality, in-house produced meals daily for students and staff, including meat and vegetarian mains, jacket potatoes, soups, pasta pots, salads, paninis, sandwiches, cakes, home bakes, yoghurts and hot puddings.
- Help maintain a modern kitchen environment with ongoing equipment investment and adherence to food safety standards.
- Follow the four-week lunch menu cycle in compliance with School Food Regulations and support positive student dining experiences.
- Support special events and daily hospitality requirements (e.g., Annual Christmas Lunch, Carol Service, Year 6 Open Evening) as part of the catering team.
- Work with the external catering consultant on procurement frameworks, food safety audits and related consultations as required.
Team and Environment
The catering team consists of the Catering Manager, an Assistant Catering Manager/Chef, two Catering Supervisors, ten Catering Assistants and a Kitchen Porter. Most food preparation occurs in the larger downstairs area, and the team operates under the guidance of an external consultant for procurement and audits.
Working Hours and Benefits
35 hours per week, 7:00 am – 2:30 pm with a 30-minute unpaid break. Monday to Friday during term time plus 12 days worked in school holidays. Benefits include:
