Grace College are looking to recruit a Head of Alternative Pathways who will enthuse pupils to learn with a combination of great subject knowledge, energy and dedication. We have high expectations for our students as they grow and develop and all our staff provide important role models to them in terms of positive attitude, work ethic and diligence.
The Successful Candidate Will Be Responsible For:
- The standard responsibilities of a Head of Department.
- The strategic development of the Alternative Pathway provision through the leadership and management of the staff team, with a particular emphasis on:
- The formation and implementation of the Alternative Pathway development plan as a safeguarding-led inclusion response, ensuring pupils remain connected to Grace College, protected from disengagement, and supported to rebuild routines, confidence and readiness to learn.
- The appraisal, coaching and professional development of the Alternative Pathway team, embedding trauma-informed, relationship-based and highly personalised approaches so that staff are confident, consistent and ambitious for every pupil.
- Effective use of staffing, space and resources across on-site tuition and off-site provision, creating safe, calm and purposeful environments where pupils can regulate, engage and begin to succeed again.
- Oversight of the Alternative Pathway curriculum, delivered through English, Maths and Personal Development, ensuring pupils build the knowledge, skills and readiness needed to increase access to learning in the main school building over time, with reintegration always kept as the long-term goal.
- Leading regular, evidence-based reviews of placements so that support remains ambitious, responsive and focused on increasing access to the main school building and reducing the risk of exclusion or prolonged absence.
- Developing exciting and meaningful personal development and enrichment opportunities - including trips, visits and alternative learning experiences that build confidence, independence, aspiration and a strong sense of belonging, supporting successful reintegration and positive post-16 destinations.
