About The Company

Emma is the app to manage all things money.

Our mission is to empower millions of people to live a better and more fulfilling financial life.

Emma was founded by engineers, who are extremely focused on coding, product and data. These are the three pillars on which we want to build a strong tech culture and fix personal finance once for all.

We have raised more than $8m+ to date to build the one stop shop for all your financial life. Our investors include Connect Ventures (investor in Curve, TrueLayer and CityMapper), Kima Ventures, one of the first in Transferwise, and Aglaé Ventures, early stage fund of the Groupe Arnault, investor in Netflix and Airbnb.

Alongside them, several angel investors, who have built and sold industry leading companies have decided to take part into this journey.

About The Role

You’ll own financial crime at Emma, working within our customer operations team under our Support & Financial Crime lead. Most of your time goes on fincrime casework. When queues are busy, you’ll also help the support team with customer cases. This mix is a core part of the job, not an extra.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and prevent financial crime: review alerts, spot suspicious activity and act on it.
  • Run KYC checks to support customer onboarding and keep us compliant.
  • Screen customers against PEP and sanctions lists, and clear false positives quickly and accurately.
  • Escalate suspicious activity and write clear internal SARs.
  • Handle sensitive customer conversations (blocked accounts, fraud, verification) with care and good judgement.
  • Cover customer support queues when needed, alongside the support team.
  • Find gaps in our fraud and fincrime processes and fix them with compliance, engineering and support.
  • Help shape how Emma prevents financial crime as we grow.

Who We Are Looking For

  • 2–3 years in a fraud, AML, KYC or fincrime operations role at a bank, fintech or payments company.
  • Hands-on experience with KYC/CDD, PEP and sanctions screening, and transaction monitoring alerts.
  • Experience writing internal SARs. Experience with DAMLs, APP fraud or chargebacks is a plus.
  • Comfortable with screening platforms, CRMs and investigative tools.
  • Clear writer, calm and kind with upset customers.
  • Happy to work across fincrime and support, depending on what the team needs that day.
  • ICA Certificate in AML / Financial Crime Prevention, CISI Combating Financial Crime or CAMS is a plus, but not required.
  • Able to support weekend coverage when needed.
  • You’re excited by what we’re building at Emma.

  • Technical call with Senior member of the team
