What are we looking for? We are currently looking to recruit a Credit Control Assistant who ideally will have two plus years’ experience.

Where will you be based? This role can be based from our Gosforth office, but we would expect you to travel and work from our Durham office 1 day per week.

How many hours will you be working? This is a full-time role which is 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm.

A brief overview of the role: As a Credit Control Assistant within the Finance Team at EMG Solicitors, you will play a key role in supporting the firm’s financial performance by managing outstanding client balances and ensuring timely debt recovery. Working closely with fee earners, clients, and internal stakeholders, you’ll handle invoice queries, maintain accurate financial records, and assist in reducing aged debt while delivering a professional and client-focused service. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous finance or credit control experience who is organised, proactive, and confident managing sensitive financial matters within a professional legal environment.

What will we expect from you:

  • Managing and monitoring outstanding client balances across the firm
  • Chasing overdue invoices via telephone, email, and written correspondence
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with clients and internal stakeholders
  • Assisting with billing queries and resolving payment disputes promptly
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and notes on the case management system
  • Supporting compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules and internal finance procedures
  • Working with fee earners to reduce aged debt and improve cash collection performance
  • Assisting with finance administration tasks as required
  • Escalating complex or high-value matters to the Credit Control Manager where appropriate

To be able to perform this job you will need:

  • Previous experience in a credit control, finance assistant, accounts assistant, or similar finance role
  • Escalation debt through court for collection
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills with a professional and confident telephone manner
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage deadlines effectively
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Experience using legal finance or case management systems would be advantageous
  • Understanding of confidentiality and professionalism within a legal environment
  • A positive, team-focused attitude with a proactive approach to problem-solving
