We are currently looking to recruit an IT Services Assistant to join our internal IT Team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop their IT career in a professional legal environment.

This role can be based from our Durham, Gosforth or Darlington office, but we would expect you to travel and work from other offices from time to time.

This is a full-time role which is 35 hours per week, however at EMG Solicitor we work flexibly; it’s not a 9 to 5 role, but we expect the work to be done, when you do it can be largely up to yourself, your Team Leader and the requirements of your clients.

As an IT Services Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for all IT-related queries within the firm. You will provide technical support to staff across multiple departments, ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations and maintaining high standards of service.

What will we expect from you:

  • Provide first-line technical support via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Set up and configure new user accounts, laptops, desktops, and mobile devices.
  • Maintain and update IT documentation and asset registers.
  • Escalate complex issues to senior IT staff or external providers when necessary.
  • Support and maintain legal-specific applications and case management systems.
  • Participate in IT projects such as system upgrades, migrations, and deployments.
  • Document technical procedures and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.

Previous experience:

  • 1+ year in a helpdesk or IT support role preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows OS, Microsoft 365, and basic networking.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
  • A proactive and problem-solving mindset.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data security, especially in a legal context.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Driving License and your own car.
  • Experience working in a legal or professional services environment (Desirable).
  • Familiarity with legal software is a plus (Desirable).
