The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join a growing team within the building services sector. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior engineering professional looking to take on a more strategic, management-focused role while continuing to provide technical leadership across a range of projects.

This is a fully remote opportunity, offering the flexibility to work from home while managing project delivery, leading design teams and maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for managing multiple projects simultaneously, typically overseeing two or three projects at any one time. You will lead electrical design delivery, manage project resources and deadlines, and ensure all work is completed to a high technical standard.

Alongside project management and technical leadership, you will play a key role in mentoring and developing junior engineers, supporting their professional growth and helping to maintain quality and consistency across the wider team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage electrical design delivery across two or three building services projects simultaneously.
  • Take ownership of project programmes, deliverables, resources and deadlines, ensuring projects remain on track.
  • Oversee electrical design from concept and feasibility through to detailed design, construction and project completion.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers, reviewing calculations, drawings, specifications and design reports.
  • Manage client relationships, attend design meetings and act as a key point of contact for electrical engineering matters.
  • Coordinate electrical design with mechanical, public health, architectural and structural disciplines.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks and resolve technical or resource-related challenges.
  • Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers, providing technical guidance, design reviews and ongoing professional development.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and support the wider team in managing workloads and priorities.
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant British Standards, Building Regulations and industry best practice.
  • Oversee the design of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, small power and fire alarm systems.
  • Review and approve design documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance and quality.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in design processes, technical standards and project delivery. xgikmsk
