The Opportunity

A leading engineering consultancy specialising in the data centre and mission-critical sector is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Lead / Principal Mechanical Engineer to join its expanding Dublin team.

This is a senior technical opportunity for a mechanical engineer with strong experience in data centre projects, who is looking to take ownership of major mechanical engineering workstreams and provide technical leadership across complex projects.

The successful candidate will work closely with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams, taking responsibility for mechanical design, technical delivery, coordination and project performance.

This role also provides an excellent opportunity to mentor engineers, influence project delivery and progress your career within a growing specialist engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering design and technical delivery across major data centre and mission-critical projects.
  • Take ownership of mechanical engineering packages and workstreams from concept and detailed design through to construction and delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership across HVAC, critical cooling systems and associated mechanical infrastructure.
  • Review mechanical designs, calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, regulations, client requirements and project specifications.
  • Coordinate mechanical design with electrical, structural, architectural and other engineering disciplines.
  • Manage technical interfaces between design teams, contractors, suppliers and clients.
  • Support project planning, programme management and technical risk management.
  • Identify and resolve complex mechanical engineering issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers within the wider team.
  • Support continuous improvement of engineering processes, standards and design practices.
  • Contribute to successful project delivery while maintaining high standards of quality and technical performance.

About You

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Lead or Principal Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in building services and complex engineering projects.

You should have

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience within mechanical engineering and building services.
  • Proven experience delivering data centre, mission-critical or similarly complex projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC and critical cooling systems.
  • Experience leading mechanical design packages, engineering workstreams or projects.
  • Strong multidisciplinary design coordination experience.
  • The ability to provide technical leadership across complex engineering projects.
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineers.
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication, technical reporting and presentation abilities.
  • A commercial and delivery-focused approach to engineering.

Desirable Experience

Experience in the following areas would be highly advantageous

  • Hyperscale or colocation data centre projects.
