This role offers the chance to work on technically complex projects while developing specialist knowledge within an industry known for demanding engineering, commercial and regulatory requirements. You don't need previous nuclear experience. We are particularly interested in professionals who have developed their commercial skills within MEP, mechanical engineering, building services, construction, infrastructure or energy.
The Opportunity Working as part of an experienced commercial team, you'll take responsibility for key cost and contractual activities across major engineering projects. You'll work closely with project managers, engineers, procurement specialists, contractors and suppliers, ensuring commercial performance is effectively managed from procurement through to delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
Managing project budgets, forecasts and cost reporting. Supporting procurement, tendering and subcontract negotiations. Reviewing applications for payment, valuations and variations. Monitoring expenditure and identifying commercial risks. Assisting with contract administration and change control. Reviewing subcontractor and supplier costs against scope and programme. Working with engineering teams to assess the commercial impact of technical requirements.
Providing clear commercial information to project and senior management. MEP & Mechanical Experience A Quantity Surveyor with an MEP, mechanical or building services background would be particularly well suited to this opportunity. Experience covering areas such as HVAC, mechanical installations, piping, process systems, plant and equipment or specialist engineering packages would be valuable.
Your understanding of technically complex projects will allow you to engage effectively with engineering teams while managing the associated commercial requirements. Transition Into Nuclear If you've established your Quantity Surveying career within another engineering or construction environment, this role provides a route into the nuclear industry without requiring previous sector experience.
You'll bring your existing commercial knowledge to the role while developing an understanding of the specific requirements of nuclear and other highly regulated infrastructure projects. It's an opportunity to diversify your experience and add a specialist sector to your professional background. The Person We're looking for a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor with: Experience in Quantity Surveying or commercial management. A background in construction, MEP, mechanical engineering, infrastructure, building services or a related discipline.
Experience with cost control, procurement, valuations, variations and reporting. Strong numerical and analytical ability. Effective communication and stakeholder-management skills. An interest in developing specialist experience within nuclear and major infrastructure.
