We’re working with an established and rapidly growing MEP consultancy that has built an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality engineering solutions across the UK.

Due to continued growth and an expanding project portfolio, we’re looking for an experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join the team.

This is a fully remote position, offering flexibility to work from anywhere in the UK.

However, the successful candidate will be expected to attend occasional client meetings in London, so applicants will ideally be based within the South.

The Role

As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll take a leading role in the delivery of complex building services designs, managing projects from concept through to completion.

You’ll provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and work closely with clients, architects, and multidisciplinary design teams to deliver exceptional engineering solutions.

A significant proportion of the workload involves large-scale residential developments, so previous experience delivering major residential projects is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of building services projects from feasibility through to detailed design.
  • Take technical responsibility for project delivery, ensuring quality, programme, and budget objectives are achieved.
  • Produce and review mechanical design calculations, specifications, reports, and drawings.
  • Lead client meetings and coordinate with architects, developers, contractors, and other consultants.
  • Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers.
  • Ensure designs comply with current regulations, standards, and industry best practice.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and technical development of the business.

About You

We’re looking for someone who has

  • Extensive experience as a Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer within an MEP consultancy.
  • Experience operating at Senior or Principal Engineer level.
  • Proven experience delivering major residential developments.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, domestic water services, public health, and low-carbon building design.
  • Excellent understanding of UK Building Regulations and relevant British Standards.
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to lead projects independently.
  • The ability to travel to London occasionally for client and team meetings.

Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it) would be advantageous but is not essential.

What’s on Offer?

  • Fully remote working with genuine flexibility.
  • Regular collaboration with the team through monthly London meetings.
  • Opportunity to work on high-profile residential and mixed-use developments.
  • Join an established consultancy with ambitious growth plans.
  • Clear opportunities for career progression and professional development.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
  • Supportive, collaborative, and technically focused team environment.
