An excellent opportunity is available for an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking to move into the nuclear and major infrastructure sector. Based in Manchester, you'll join a project team delivering technically complex engineering and infrastructure work, gaining valuable exposure to the commercial requirements of a highly regulated industry. Previous nuclear experience is not essential.
We are particularly interested in Quantity Surveyors from MEP, mechanical engineering, building services, construction, infrastructure and energy backgrounds. If you're looking to broaden your sector experience and work on complex projects with long-term prospects, this could be an excellent next step.
The Role
You'll work closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, contractors and suppliers, providing commercial support throughout the project lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing project costs, budgets, forecasts and commercial reporting.
- Supporting procurement, tendering and subcontract negotiations.
- Reviewing valuations, applications for payment and variations.
- Monitoring commercial performance and identifying risks and opportunities.
- Supporting contract administration and change control.
- Reviewing subcontractor and supplier costs against agreed scopes.
- Working with technical teams to understand project requirements and commercial impact.
MEP & Mechanical Background
Experience within MEP, mechanical engineering or building services would be particularly relevant. Knowledge of areas such as HVAC, mechanical services, piping, process systems, plant, equipment or specialist installation packages would be advantageous. This technical understanding can provide a strong foundation for managing the commercial aspects of complex engineering projects.
Moving Into Nuclear
This role is well suited to Quantity Surveyors who have built their commercial experience in another technically demanding sector and are now looking to transition into nuclear. You'll be able to apply your existing skills while developing specialist knowledge of nuclear projects, major infrastructure, engineering delivery and highly regulated environments. Nuclear experience is therefore desirable rather than essential.
About You
We're looking for a Quantity Surveyor with:
- Experience in Quantity Surveying or commercial management.
- A background in construction, MEP, mechanical engineering, infrastructure, building services or a related sector.
- Experience with costs, procurement, valuations, variations and commercial reporting.
- Strong numerical, analytical and communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively with technical and project teams.
- A genuine interest in developing within the nuclear sector.
