Mechanical Design Manager – Data Centres | France

Location: France Sector: Data Centres / Mission Critical Discipline: Mechanical Engineering / Design Management Languages: Fluent French & English

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Manager to join a growing team delivering major data centre developments across France.

This is a senior mechanical design and engineering position, focused on the delivery of critical infrastructure, including HVAC, cooling systems and associated mechanical services.

The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating complex data centre designs and ensuring solutions meet demanding requirements for performance, resilience, safety and operational reliability.

You will work closely with engineering, construction and operational teams, providing technical leadership throughout the design and delivery lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate mechanical design activities across major data centre projects.
  • Take ownership of mechanical design management, ensuring designs are technically robust, coordinated and aligned with project requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership across HVAC, cooling systems and critical mechanical infrastructure.
  • Review and coordinate detailed mechanical engineering designs, specifications and technical submissions.
  • Lead multidisciplinary design coordination meetings with consultants, contractors, suppliers and internal engineering teams.
  • Coordinate external designers and ensure mechanical design deliverables meet programme, quality and performance requirements.
  • Review proposed HVAC and cooling solutions and provide engineering input to optimise design and implementation strategies.
  • Coordinate the performance, supply and technical support of key mechanical infrastructure suppliers.
  • Ensure data centre mechanical systems comply with relevant engineering standards, operational requirements and safety expectations.
  • Provide technical guidance throughout the design and delivery lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through construction and commissioning.
  • Work closely with electrical, telecoms, security and BMS teams to ensure effective multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Support technical investigations and Root Cause Analysis, identifying corrective actions and ensuring lessons learned are incorporated into future data centre designs.
  • Identify design risks, technical interfaces and opportunities to improve the resilience and efficiency of critical infrastructure.
  • Provide clear technical direction to project stakeholders and support effective decision-making throughout the project.

About You

We are looking for a technically strong Mechanical Design Manager with proven experience delivering complex engineering or construction projects.

You will ideally have

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Construction Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong Design Management experience within technically complex construction, engineering or mission-critical environments.
  • Proven experience in mechanical design engineering, with a strong mechanical bias.
  • Excellent knowledge of HVAC, cooling systems and critical mechanical infrastructure.
  • Previous experience working on data centre, mission-critical or other highly resilient infrastructure projects.
  • A good understanding of electrical systems and associated telecoms, security and BMS infrastructure.
  • Experience coordinating consultants, external designers, contractors, suppliers and internal technical teams.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering design best practice, safety standards and operational requirements.
  • Experience reviewing technical documentation, specifications, drawings and engineering solutions.
  • Excellent technical problem-solving, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • The ability to lead mechanical design coordination across multidisciplinary and international project teams.
  • Chartered Engineer status or another relevant professional qualification would be advantageous.
