We are recruiting for a Mechanical Estimator to join a well-established engineering contractor in the North West that specialises in delivering high-value projects within the nuclear sector. This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Estimator to develop their career in a growing market, working alongside experienced professionals on prestigious projects.
We are particularly interested in candidates with HVAC and mechanical estimating experience, although we are also keen to speak with individuals from a Quantity Surveying background who are looking to move into estimating.
The Role
As a Mechanical Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for mechanical and HVAC packages across a range of complex nuclear projects. Working closely with the commercial and project delivery teams, you will play a key role in securing future work while ensuring estimates are commercially robust and technically accurate.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical and HVAC installations.
- Review tender documentation, drawings and specifications.
- Produce accurate take-offs and pricing schedules.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Liaise with clients, consultants and internal project teams.
- Identify value engineering opportunities.
- Assess project risks and commercial opportunities.
- Support the preparation of tender submissions.
- Maintain estimating databases and pricing information.
- Assist with post-tender negotiations and handovers.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience as a Mechanical Estimator.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and mechanical building services.
- Experience pricing mechanical and HVAC projects.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Commercial awareness and strong numerical skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office.
- A background in mechanical engineering, building services or HVAC.
- Candidates with a Quantity Surveying background who are interested in moving into estimating are also encouraged to apply.
- Full UK driving licence is desirable.
