The Opportunity We are currently seeking an experienced EC&I Design Engineer to join an established engineering business based near Manchester, working on technically challenging projects within a highly regulated environment. This is a long-term outside IR35 contract opportunity, offering the potential for sustained work for an experienced EC&I Design Engineer looking for their next contract assignment. The ideal candidate will have experience delivering EC&I design within a regulated sector, with experience in nuclear particularly desirable. However, candidates from other highly regulated and safety-critical environments may also be considered.
The Role
As an EC&I Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and delivering electrical, control and instrumentation design solutions across the project lifecycle. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, producing robust EC&I design solutions that meet project, client and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities include: Delivering EC&I design solutions for complex engineering projects. Producing and reviewing electrical, control and instrumentation drawings and documentation. Developing design deliverables including schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules and equipment documentation. Supporting design reviews, technical queries and engineering assessments. Working closely with mechanical, process, systems and other engineering disciplines. Ensuring EC&I design deliverables comply with relevant standards, specifications and project requirements. Supporting the development and resolution of technical issues throughout the design lifecycle. Reviewing designs and providing technical input to ensure EC&I requirements are appropriately addressed.
About You
We're looking for an experienced EC&I Design Engineer with a background in a regulated or safety-critical engineering environment.
You will ideally have: Proven experience delivering EC&I design within the nuclear sector, or another highly regulated industry such as defence, pharmaceutical, oil & gas, energy or chemical processing. Strong understanding of electrical, control and instrumentation engineering principles. Experience producing and reviewing technical EC&I documentation and engineering drawings. The ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams. A strong understanding of engineering standards, quality requirements and design processes within a regulated environment.
