Based in Cumbernauld, Scotland, you will provide strategic and technical leadership across hardware and software engineering disciplines, helping to shape the future of innovative Gas Analysis and Detection products.
In this role, you will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, drive technology strategy, foster innovation, and ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions that meet customer needs and business objectives.
Working collaboratively across global teams, you will play a key role in advancing product development, operational excellence, and long-term growth.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be
- Lead, coach, and develop multidisciplinary software and electronics engineering teams, supporting talent growth, engagement, and high performance.
- Drive successful delivery of new product development and sustaining engineering activities, ensuring quality, performance, and execution excellence.
- Define and implement technology strategies across hardware and software platforms aligned with product roadmaps and business goals.
- Partner with Product Management and cross-functional stakeholders to align engineering priorities with customer and market requirements.
- Guide system architecture decisions across embedded software, electronics, and integrated product platforms.
- Champion innovation by identifying opportunities to improve product capabilities, development processes, and adoption of emerging technologies.
- Optimize engineering resource allocation to balance innovation, product development, and sustaining support activities.
- Provide technical leadership and final approval of key engineering deliverables across hardware and software disciplines.
- Support resolution of manufacturing, field, and customer issues through effective collaboration and technical problem-solving.
- Promote strong partnerships across global Emerson teams and external stakeholders to accelerate delivery and continuous improvement.
- Lead activities that ensure compliance with applicable industry, quality, regulatory, and safety standards.
- Drive transparent communication of engineering plans, progress, risks, and outcomes to leadership and key stakeholders.

For This Role, You Will Need
- Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent knowledge and practical experience.
- Significant experience in embedded software development, electronic hardware development, or both.
- Experience leading technical or engineering teams and delivering successful engineering outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience managing product development across the full product lifecycle.
- Strong understanding of industrial instrumentation, embedded systems, or related technology environments.
- Experience working with embedded software development methodologies and tools.
- Knowledge of communication protocols such as Serial Communications, Modbus, or TCP/IP.
- Experience guiding technical strategy, architecture decisions, and engineering execution.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to fostering inclusive teams and collaborative ways of working.
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart
- Experience with embedded C/C++ software development.
- Knowledge of Linux-based embedded environments, including tools such as Yocto and Device Tree.
- Experience with device driver development.
- Expertise in analog and digital circuit design.
- Experience with PCB development and CAD design tools.
- Knowledge of CE, UKCA, UL, CSA, ATEX, or other relevant regulatory and safety standards.
- Experience working within global engineering organizations.
- Familiarity with industrial automation, gas analysis, process instrumentation, or related industries.
- Proven success driving innovation initiatives and technology roadmap development
