Program Description and Context:

Bringing a medical device or drug from concept to commercialization is a complex process. The regulatory environment surrounding medical devices is extremely hard to navigate, making it inherently more difficult to bring a product to market successfully. What does it take to bring a new medical product or pharmaceutical to life? The MIT xPRO Drug and Medical Device Development has defined a Strategic Approach program that explores the entire process of identifying the benefits and risks—and the strategic choices made along the way—of bringing a new medical product to market. This program provides the “big picture” perspective of medical product development, while delving into those details that will help participants avoid the major pitfalls that ensnare market incumbents and startups alike. By the end of the course, participants will have gained perspective of the entire drug and medical device development process, from day one strategic planning through product commercialization.

Duration: 8 weeks (estimated learner commitment: 4–5 hours/week).

Structure: Blend of asynchronous Canvas activities and live Zoom sessions.

Target Audience: Mid- to senior-level professionals and technical leaders seeking to integrate AI in healthcare fields.
