The University of Sussex invites applications for a fully funded PhD studentship titled AI-Driven Ultrasound for Materials Evaluation (2026). The project will explore how deep learning can map material states to ultrasonic signals, supporting inverse modelling and reliable property extraction.

You will run large-scale simulations, design neural networks, quantify prediction uncertainty, and validate approaches in our ultrasonic lab, with access to HPC resources and collaborations with industry.
