Overview

Ambulance Care Assistants are based in Nottingham (S81). This is a full time/permanent position with varying shifts Mon – Sun between 05:30 and 00:00.

An Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA) is a rewarding role. Each day you’ll help someone in need, making their day easier and gaining a sense of achievement from your work.

Responsibilities

  • Transport elderly, sick and vulnerable service users to and from medical appointments and between healthcare facilities.

This can be carried out as two-person crews or alone, so a full UK manual driving licence and good physical fitness are required.

  • Assist with lifting, securing and helping service users in and out of the ambulance.
  • Assist with handing over patients to appropriate staff on arrival at treatment centres or hospitals, or to family/friends at their homes.
  • Transfer patients from beds to stretchers, chairs to chairs, or similar, both in and out of hospital and during medical flights.
  • Assist service users with challenging behaviour and/or mental health illnesses.
  • Ensure the ambulance is kept safe, clean and tidy.

Qualifications

  • Hold a valid UK manual driving licence (6 points maximum).
  • Committed to patient care.
  • Effective communicator with experience dealing with emotional circumstances.
  • Calm, considerate driver and good team player.
  • Pass an Enhanced DBS check (company funded).
  • Familiar with the local and surrounding area.
  • Be physically fit for patient handling and moving.
  • Be able to work flexible shifts between 05:30 and 00:00, Monday to Sunday (with notice).

  • Maintain ambulance safety, cleanliness and tidiness.
