Ambulance Care Assistant (Bank) – EMED Group

Overview

We are looking for a dedicated Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA) to join our crew in Cambridge on a bank (0‑hour) contract. The ACA plays a vital role in helping elderly, sick and vulnerable service users to and from medical appointments and between healthcare facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport service users to and from appointments and healthcare facilities.
  • Assist with end‑of‑life transport and ensure empathy and professionalism.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families.
  • Lift, secure and help patients in and out of the ambulance.
  • Handle hand‑overs at treatment centres, hospitals and homes.
  • Transfer patients between beds, stretchers and chairs, including during medical and commercial flights.
  • Deal with challenging behaviour and/or mental‑health issues.
  • Maintain the ambulance’s safety, cleanliness and tidiness.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Full UK manual driving licence with fewer than 6 penalty points.
  • Full UK driving licence required for bank role.
  • Physical fitness for patient handling and moving.
  • Commitment to patient care and an effective communicator.
  • The ability to stay calm, considerate and a careful driver.
  • Team‑working spirit and collaboration.
  • Pass an Enhanced DBS check.
  • Familiarity with the local and surrounding area.
