We have a fantastic opportunity for full‑time Ambulance Care Assistants to join our team based in Keynsham. The position is full time, covering 38 hours a week between 05:00 am and 00:00 pm, Monday to Sunday. The role involves transporting elderly, sick and vulnerable service users to and from their medical appointments and between healthcare facilities. Two‑person crews or single‑person operations may be required, so the successful candidate must hold a full UK driving licence and have a good degree of physical fitness.

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients to and from medical appointments and healthcare facilities.
  • Operate ambulances safely, keeping the vehicle clean, tidy and well‑maintained.
  • Assist patients in and out of the ambulance, including lifting and securing them.
  • Co‑ordinate hand‑over of patients to appropriate staff at treatment centres, hospitals or patients’ homes.
  • Provide personal support and empathy for patients, especially those undergoing end‑of‑life care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and staff, particularly in emotionally challenging situations.
  • Help manage patient behaviour, including those with mental health issues and challenging behaviour.

Other Duties

  • Assist in the transport of end‑of‑life service users, maintaining a high level of empathy at all times.
  • Build rapport by effective communication with patients and their relatives/friends.
  • Lifting, securing and helping patients in and out of the ambulance.
  • Transfer patients from beds to stretchers, chairs or other equipment, both in and outside hospital or during medical/commercial flights.
  • Assist patients with challenging behaviour and/or mental health illnesses.
  • Ensure the ambulance is kept safe, clean and tidy.

Qualifications

  • Hold a valid UK manual driving licence (minimum 6 points).
  • Work flexible shifts within 05:00 am to 00:00 pm, Monday to Sunday.
  • Effective communicator with experience in emotionally charged circumstances.
  • Physically fit for patient handling and moving.
  • Pass an Enhanced DBS check (company funded).
