EMEA Legal Recruitment is exclusively retained by a global reinsurance leader to source their first Employment Counsel for the business. The VP, Employment Counsel will report directly to the Chief Legal Counsel, playing a pivotal role in supporting the Global Human Resources function. This is a newly created position where you will play an integral role in providing legal advice on all aspects of the employment relationship and ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions.

Candidate Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with HR on employment-related legal matters, including offers, performance management, separations, employee benefits, and global mobility.
  • Provide legal advice on employment issues, including drafting and reviewing employment-related documentation, compliance with local labour laws, employee benefits, immigration laws, and workplace policies.
  • Support HR in managing employee relations matters, investigations, and grievances.
  • Ensure employee handbooks and related policies and procedures are maintained and updated.
  • Develop and deliver training programmes on employment law topics.
  • Supervise outside counsel on employment-related matters.
  • Oversee employment-related litigation with outside counsel.

Qualifications:

  • Law degree from an accredited, international law school and qualified to practise in Ireland or the United Kingdom.
  • Minimum of 5 years practising as an in-house employment counsel with a focus on international matters.
  • Significant experience in reviewing and drafting employment-related agreements, policies, and procedures.
  • Proven track record of making independent decisions regarding complex legal and corporate issues.
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to exercise independent judgement.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse, team-oriented, collaborative business environment, as well as independently.
  • High moral character and professional integrity.
  • Self-starter able to thrive in a high-performance, demanding culture and willing to assume new roles and responsibilities.
