Our client is a premier specialist construction company in London, delivering high-value solutions for massive complex infrastructures and commercial landmarks that keeps the UK running. Due to sustained business growth, they have created a brand-new role for a commercially-minded Construction Solicitor who wants to step closer to the front line projects.
In this position, you will act as a strategic partner to bid teams and project managers, providing the critical legal guardrails that allow the business to scale safely and successfully.
The Role and Responsibilities
- Actively drive the deal by reviewing, drafting, and negotiating complex construction contracts including JCT and NEC4 suites, alongside sub-contracts and professional appointments.
- Serve as the primary legal point of contact throughout the construction phase, offering real-time advice on extensions of time (EOTs), payment notices, and variations.
- Mitigate risk by identifying potential disputes early and implementing pragmatic strategies to avoid formal litigation.
- Influence overall business strategy by providing direct, risk-based advice to the senior leadership team on high-value tenders.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- UK-qualified Solicitor with a robust background in construction law, ideally falling within the 2 to 6+ years PQE.
- Deep contractual mastery of JCT Design and Build or Standard forms, as well as NEC3 and NEC4 Options A, B, and C.
- Exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to translate complex legal jargon into clear, actionable commercial advice for non-legal stakeholders.
- Familiarity with FIDIC, hands-on experience in adjudication, or previous in-house or secondment experience will be highly advantageous.
